Much to enjoy in this story

In Spanish Florida, Gabriella and Manuel have been enjoying happiness again since the troubles with the British and looking forward to celebrating Gabriella’s birthday, when once again there is the threat of war. A big party is planned and Manuel and Gabriella’s friend Sailfish of the River People is travelling back for it. On his way Sailfish unexpectedly meets a beautiful but annoying girl. Reluctant to leave Meli to face possible danger alone he decides to accompany her.

Sailfish has secretly been in love with Gabriella for some time and desperately tries to hide it. The last thing he would do would be to hurt his blood brother Manuel. Can Sailfish find his own happiness with Meli? Will the English attack the town and fort?

There is much to enjoy in this story. Although a follow on to Indian Summer this is good as a stand alone.
An excellent historical romance easily worth five stars

Great Period Love Story!

MacFarlane is a great story teller. I was transported back in time to Scotland during the time of the Roman unrest. The practice and custom of that time of selling and acquiring humans as slaves are aptly depicted. It’s unfortunate for the hero, Ualan, his time as stud slave to Caecilia, the Roman, dictates his life, even after he manages to escape, taking their son with him. Now not only did he have to fight the demon that plagues him through dreams, he has the Picts to contend with if he wanted to keep his inheritance.

The dialogue brings the story to life, placing the reader in the middle of the action, whether it be fighting the enemy or making love with his new wife. My heart goes out to Ualan, his trials were many, but in the end he triumphed with the help of his family and friends, and his beloved wife, Sorcha. Great period love story!

What starts out with titillation burning from the page—sweat soaked thighs, fingers diffing into flesh—is not what it appears to be. I’m captivated by the time I learn this was the stuff of dreams, literally. Aed’s dream. The object of his lust and affection, the love of his life, the woman he doesn’t want to live without, Murine, is who he is dreaming about. Right away I want to know about this couple, I’m invested in the passion our protagonist has for his beloved. But where is she? The answer to this question and Aed’s encounters in his quest to unite with her, against issues he has to handle with his family and opposition from her family, against family tension, is what keeps the plot moving nicely. It is passion that drives this tale and others selfish desires to keep them apart that holds the plot’s tension. Tightly written it is a fantastical adventure that doesn’t lack action. Without diving into and retelling the story and spoiling it for others, suffice it to say this author knows how to write and this is well worth the read.

I was plunged headfirst into this series and had to play a little bit of catchup because this is the third book, but the first one I’ve written. As it’s the last book in the series though, it has a nice little wrap up on the subplots. After the emotional journey that Aghilas and Grainne went on, I was particularly happy with the way their story came to a close.

While the dialect is a different, it’s easy to adjust to the way the characters speak, and eventually, I actually found it to be an enjoyable part of the story because it set the scene so much better. Cherime MacFarlane always does a fantastic job of putting a snapshot of just about any country into her work. When I read her work, I get to both enjoy a compelling story while learning about different cultures.
