We've read of many escapes from behind the Iron Curtain. In the early 1900's escapes were planned from occupied Poland by villagers who were suspected of being political enemies of the Russian Czar, as well as by young men who did not want to serve under the Russian armies and fight for the Russian Czar against their own people.
In the autumn of the year 1913, it was rumored that all the young men of the village of Zytyn were to be drafted into the Russian army. When Lucjan heard this, he sought out his friend Franciszek at work and told him what he had heard.
