John left to go talk to the boatmen since he's the only one who speaks fluent Portuguese, and he arranged the trip to begin with. France speaks some Portuguese but not much. John made sure three of the canoes would be for France and Cathy's group. They don't have very much equipment so three canoes were plenty. He instructed the boatmen to take these three first, and John's group would follow. The remaining four would be for John's group.
John knew France was about six hours away from where she wanted to go, and his destination should be approximately two days just to get to the fishing spot and another 8 hours to go to the arapaima farm. He's only planning on staying five days instead of the three weeks he normally does. John had been invited to be on several talk shows and needed to be back home. He planned to come back here if he didn't catch the fish he wanted at a later time.
France and Cathy helped Doc and Joe get their gear loaded onto their respective canoes. The third canoe would be just for Cathy's group. Doc and Andy will be in the canoe with her gear, and France and Tony with theirs.
John's team loaded all their equipment on their canoes. Mark and Paul get into the one which has the cameras and some of the recording equipment. Phil got into the one with other recording supplies. Dave's canoe carried the mosquito netting, tents and other equipment. John rides, with his old friend and guide, Davi, in the one with the medical supplies and food. Since the water might come over the sides of the canoes these will have to be watched and bailed to keep their equipment dry.
Cathy didn't like the look of the carved-out canoe. “Are we going to be on the water, in that, for six hours?” she asked France.
“We sure will. Don't worry, we'll make it.” France assured her. “We did it before.”
“Same kind of canoes?”
“Yup. Didn’t have a problem then and don't think we'll have one today.” France said stifling a chuckle. “Just sit still and you'll be all right. If some water splashes in just bail it out.” Cathy's shocked look is too much and France laughed. “Don't worry. You'll be fine.”
