Adam had come down from his room and joined his foster-father in the kitchen for dinner. He took a seat across from Gabriel after taking the plate which was made for him. The silence started to build to a thickness, which was beginning to be unbearable for the both of them, especially on Gabriel’s half. Whenever he saw his son, he didn’t like the way silence was held. After all these years, he became attached to Adam. “How was school?”
Adam shrugged. Though it was evident there was something on his mind, Gabriel was willing to get everything out in the open. “All right,” he started, “what’s on your case?”
“Sir,” Adam began.
Gabriel was shocked. He never knew Adam to address him in such a manner. The only time he could recall Adam calling him sir, was when they first adopted him – when he was first speaking openly. Now, it seemed that there was something truly bothering his son. “I’ve never heard you call me that in a long time,” Gabriel said. “Now…” he let his sentence open-ended, composing himself like an authority figure rather than a father.
