"Heads or tails," Jaysen had called out.
"Huh!" Adam had been distracted by what his uncle had said to them in the kitchen earlier.
"Heads or tails," Jaysen Stripe repeated, fishing a quarter from his back pocket.
"Tails," Adam replied, and Jason flipped a coin in the air. Standing on the pool table, it showed tails.
Jaysen racked the balls and Adam broke the set. They didn't expect to exchange words, but Jaysen had suddenly asked,"Do you have a girlfriend?"
It caught Adam Ludsgarden off guard. He had to stop and look at Jaysen. "What?" Then: "it's your turn." He seemed to avoid the question.
As Jason had lined up for his next shot, he asked again, slightly pressing the matter. They were calling out the shots, it was a very casual game. "Well, where'd you go at night? I know you're sneaking out of the house," he said making his shot and sinking the five Ball in a corner pocket.
